Good question, Birdseed. I have no idea. I’m sure it has specific meaning to MC Gringo. Perhaps he’ll elaborate at some point. Sounds like one of those half-imaginary DJ C genres to me.
Re: Simon Reynolds. I gotta tell ya, I can’t “read” his blog the same way I cannot “read” Sasha Frere-Jones’ blog. They seem designed to make you feel like you’re not in on the joke. And I just don’t have time to care. I’ll wait till the next book is out, with full sentences and stuff.
