Join Flack & I & Brian Coleman & friends as we pay tribute to the too too soon departed local music man, Tim Haslett, “one of the unsung heroes of the Boston scene,” former buyer for Other Music’s Hahvid Sq branch, Twisted Villager, true champion of underground music, rap-techno-electro lover (oh and house too), and black cultural nationalist. An intellectual and a gentle man. Who’s gonna be missed.
Monday night, March 24, 9pm-1am, music in the spirit of Tim.
If you’re a local DJ type who knew him, come on out and bring a few rekkids Tim woulda liked.

I was a DJ with Tim at WZBC.
He was wonderful.
What a terrible loss.

Good post, Wayne. I’ll definitely be there on Monday.
I was in shock when I heard the news. There’s been too much death recently.
You will have to play Luke Haines. He loved The Auteurs, Black Box Recorder, Baader Meinhof and all thing Haines almost as much as Pernice Brothers
What? What?!?
is there more info on what happened available anywhere?
what a loss..

thx for the info, david. i enjoyed your own remembrance too.
i didn’t know tim at all, but after reading four obituaries today about him, i am interested to come to the enormous room on monday to hear the music that he liked. what a good idea!
I was going to suggest some Black Box Recorder too. He always described them as ‘off the meat hook!’ which seemed odd but somehow fitting. Tim, you are missed.
some kind words from /jace and hua too —
Is there any archive of the angels of history posts? or do the just the comments remain as some unhinged collection of references?
yeah, it’s unfortunate that the posts have not survived at angelofhistory.org, tho the comments — which are great in their own right (and definitely unhinged in other ways too!) — do. (who, if anyone, might be able to fix this?) but i did find most of tim’s posts archived in another place, albeit sans comments:

enjoy Monday night – please take pix, make recordings & share
THANK YOU!
at his blog, benny blanco® has posted two mp3s of a 1992 ravey radio mix by Tim during his ZBC days. great stuff —

he was one of those seriously jittery types whose brain moves too fast for most people, i could usually barely keep up with him…and someone who had no snobbishness about music and real enthusiasm even after 20 years of being an obsessive.
you could ask him about something and it would instantly wind him up and out would spill his opinion, a myriad of connections to cultural histories, products…
he will be missed and more than that, there’s a huge gaping hole of knowledge where tim was. The one person whom I wish somehow could have wikified his brain.
