per recent discussions, ted swedenburg links to a fascinating “goth bellydance” video, which is set, interestingly, to a custom refix by enduser of some _bollywood breaks_ material

a pretty awesome (& mercifully brief) mashup of two unlikely musical bedfellows, despite both being latin american musical icons (in their own ways, of course) :: (thx, caro!)

I’d agree with your take on the Babel article I think. Doesn’t lack of understanding and “bad” mimesis drive creativity forward better than the worried ability to be able to copy perfectly?
(I realise this is the second blog other than the original I’m discussing this article on, but the discussion there is reasoned enough without my “contributions”.)

I hope to comment over at DuttyArtz and MuddUp myself, if I can find the time. I agree with some of it and disagree with some too. Glad to see so many thoughtful comments at both places, at any rate.
As for whether “bad” mimesis drives creativity better than perfect copies, I guess so. Of course, the “worried ability to copy perfectly” more often leads to “bad” mimesis than not, no?
