Thank you Wayne. I think about this everytime I hear about a U.S. military casualty. Yesterday five soldiers were killed in Iraq. How many Iraqis were killed?
Our media continues to de-humanize the Iraqi people which belittles their loss of life compared to ours. Many Americans don’t even know we are at war. Who do you think might be suffering more?
Surely Paris’s prison release is more important that all of this no ? It seems to be in the UK news at the moment. Wtf !?!
…and of *all* those stories, only the cat story makes most e-mailed or blogged! people love cats
The reporting on the effects of the troop surge are similar. Storylines like “45 Insurgents Killed in attack on Baghdad Outskirts” always make me cringe. Were they really all insurgents? Unlikely at best. More likely 10 insurgents and 35 people in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Thanks for the comments, y’all. Obvious an observation as this seems, sometimes it still gives on the feeling of ‘sticking one’s neck out’ in our jingoistic times, which is, of course, ridiculous. (Jingoistic Times, hmmm.)
And, John, you’re too too right. I actually almost grabbed a screenshot of the top10 emailed articles, but I didn’t b/c the London threats didn’t even make it in there. As you note, tho, that’s telling in its own way. (& I have to admit that cat article was kind of interesting.
