(Teaser: I make an appearance in the most recent post, but do check her repost of <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.myspace.com\/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.view&#038;friendID=76887737&#038;blogID=219439725&#038;Mytoken=BDBBC1DF-5B6A-42CD-88D4DE90D32EB40221359739\">Bernardo Brigante&#8217;s email polemic<\/a>.)<\/li>\n<p><\/p>\n<li>Representar: Humboldt Park&#8217;s own Oneeleven, aka the <a href=\"http:\/\/myspace.com\/polacobombero\">PolacoBombero<\/a>, aka Anton Kociolek &#8212; a deeply knowledgable locolocal who blew my mind last night on some historico-musico-socio-cultural storytelling \/ &#8216;pod wheeling \/ table tapping &#8212; <em>also<\/em> has a blog at thatspace, which he has so far devoted to <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.myspace.com\/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.ListAll&#038;friendID=46258535&#038;MyToken=ecc9cf7e-3a3a-4fc8-b385-e2a1ce0a3887ML\">two extensive pieces on bomba<\/a>.<\/li>\n<p><\/p>\n<li>Back to Jamaica: Delighted to discover this past week &#8220;linguist with wanderlust&#8221; Ria Bacon&#8217;s astute, reflective, and beautiful <a href=\"http:\/\/riabacon.com\/\">Jamaica blog<\/a> (which makes me wish <a href=\"http:\/\/wayneandwax.org\/blog.html\">i&#038;i had wordpress<\/a> way back when) ..<\/li>\n<p><\/p>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.versionist.com\/blogs\/viewblog.php?userid=404\">Pete Murder Tone<\/a> with a nice piece on &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.jahtari.org\/magazine\/reggae\/other_riddim_twins.htm\">the other riddim twins<\/a>&#8221;\n<p>(published, you&#8217;ll note, in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jahtari.org\/magazine.htm\">Jahtari Magazine<\/a>, which &#8212; now a regular and tasty blog &#8212; adds a nice dimension to what was already a nice lil <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jahtari.org\/main.htm\">netlabel<\/a>, consistently offering up crnchy computachip dubs as well as a series of well-researched but not over-rehearsed <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jahtari.org\/music\/tapes.htm\">mixtapes<\/a> [fi stream mostly] &#8212; check Murder Tone&#8217;s steppers genealogy, &#8220;Warrior&#8217;s Dance&#8221;)<\/li>\n<p><\/p>\n<li>&#038; speaking of others, or even other others, or even&#8230;<br \/>\n[audio:http:\/\/www.wayneandwax.com\/music\/the-message.mp3]<br \/>\nYou know my name is Wayne Marshall, not to be confused with the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.vprecords.com\/bio.php?artiste_number=181\">other<\/a> Wayne Marshall, or the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.concertartist.info\/biog\/MAR001.html\">other other<\/a> Wayne Marshall &#8212; both of whom, incidentally, have over the years passed and fallen behind and passed me again in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/search?q=wayne+marshall\">Great Google Race<\/a>. But you probably don&#8217;t know the other other other Wayne Marshall, who is the first other Wayne Marshall I ever encountered &#8212; save for my father, of course, also named Wayne Marshall. Which is no little thing; indeed, <em>I<\/em> was the little thing, referred to fairly frequently growing up as &#8220;Little Wayne&#8221; (tho never &#8220;Lil Wayne,&#8221; for the record &#8212; even so, he&#8217;s still a biter, <em>and<\/em> a <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Shill\">shill<\/a> for the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.freethedjs.com\/2007\/01\/20\/d-day-or-we-day\/\">status quo<\/a>, so there). Hence, I&#8217;ve always sorta been the other Wayne Marshall.<br \/>\n<br \/>\nAt any rate, when I first searched my name on the Internet, back in early college (as an assignment, mind you; in CS-50, mind you, which I took as an elective &#8212; with Brian &#8220;I wrote <a href=\"http:\/\/cm.bell-labs.com\/cm\/cs\/cbook\/\">the book on c<\/a>&#8221; Kernighan, no less), the first return I found was this Luther-Campbell-cum-R.Kelly (f&#8217;real, check the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ilike.com\/artist\/Wayne+Marshall\/album\/Ninety+Degrees+%26+Rising\">track titles<\/a>) hairychested newjackjiggy pr0nopop soulsinger from the UK. Now that was a trip.<br \/>\n<br \/>\nThe other day I (re)found his picture on Google Images (where I&#8217;m <a href=\"http:\/\/images.google.com\/images?q=wayne%20marshall&#038;ie=UTF-8&#038;oe=UTF-8&#038;sa=N&#038;tab=wi\">getting killed<\/a>, btw, duh) &#8212;<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/wayneandwax.com\/wp\/images\/the_other_WayneMarshall.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/wayneandwax.com\/wp\/images\/the_other_WayneMarshall.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/wayneandwax.com\/wp\/images\/the_other_WayneMarshall.jpg\"><br \/>\n<br \/>\nPerhaps the bigger trip, though, is that waynemarshall.com &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/waynemarshall.com.37807.fb.dbbsrv.com\/?uref=\">may be for sale<\/a>&#8221; (not that i want it).<br \/>\n<br \/>\nPerhaps the biggest trip, though, is that I have an English name &#8212; or even a &#8220;Jamaican name,&#8221; as an elderly woman in Kingston once told me &#8212; despite that I&#8217;m directly named after a guy of Sicilian and Portuguese parentage. (I explained the Machado&#8211;>Marshall change <a href=\"http:\/\/wayneandwax.com\/?p=64\">last month<\/a>, you&#8217;ll recall.) The funny thing about the first name is that it&#8217;s supposedly derived from, you guessed it, John Wayne. (How&#8217;s that for post-war 2nd-gen kitsch\/assimilation inspiration, pardner?) So I end up with this odd super-Anglo-Am name, though I could have just as easily been Manuel Machado. Sometimes I wonder how that simple change might have changed my life.<br \/>\n<br \/>\nBut back to my pr0npop namesake, I&#8217;m curious: do any of you UK music folk out there happen remember this chap? (He would seem difficult to forget. I think he even charted.) Does anyone <em>have<\/em> any of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.capitalvinyl.com\/recordinfo.php?id=20494&#038;title=Ninety%20Degrees%20&#038;%20Rising\">these tracks<\/a>? Gotta be a bargain bin item at this point, no?
