{"id":7482,"date":"2013-05-03T11:43:25","date_gmt":"2013-05-03T15:43:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wayneandwax.com\/?p=7482"},"modified":"2015-01-07T13:33:27","modified_gmt":"2015-01-07T17:33:27","slug":"lets-get-cvlt-lets-get-tgthr","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wayneandwax.com\/?p=7482","title":{"rendered":"Let&#8217;s Get CVLT, Let&#8217;s Get TGTHR"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Got two great gigs in the next couple weeks that I want to make a little bit of a big deal about! <\/p>\n<p>First up, next Monday (May 6) at <a href=\"http:\/\/middlesexlounge.us\/\">Middlesex<\/a>, I&#8217;m excited to take a turn as a guest at <a href=\"http:\/\/dustri.al\/cvlt\/\">CVLT<\/a>, Cambridge \/ Boston&#8217;s semimonthly source for &#8220;Electronic Death Music&#8221; (as they put it) &#8212; <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/wayneandwax\/8702430474\/\" title=\"CVLT - MAY 6 by wayneandwax, on Flickr\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm9.staticflickr.com\/8411\/8702430474_df37a1f051_z.jpg\" width=\"457\" height=\"640\" alt=\"CVLT - MAY 6\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This is an exciting opportunity to delve into some harder, darker sounds I don&#8217;t often play out. You can count on some duppy-haunted dancehall, k-hole reggaeton, and unvarnished grime. And as you can see, I&#8217;ll not only be joined by CVLT&#8217;s residents but by the one and only <a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/nickdawg\">Nick Dawg<\/a> of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.beantownboogiedown.com\/\">Beantown Boogietown<\/a>, Boston&#8217;s premiere bass(scene) boosting blog. <\/p>\n<p>FYI, Nick just cooked up a mix full of tracks c\/o this year&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.togetherboston.com\/\">Together<\/a> acts (more about that in a moment)&#8211;<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"100%\" height=\"166\" scrolling=\"no\" frameborder=\"no\" src=\"https:\/\/w.soundcloud.com\/player\/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fapi.soundcloud.com%2Ftracks%2F90049301\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Plus+++ the night will begin with an 8pm screening of <em>The Earth Rejects Him<\/em> by local filmmaker Jared Skolnick. Here&#8217;s a blurb (and a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?feature=player_embedded&#038;v=DcRPedmA4jw\">teaser<\/a>): <\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>The Earth Rejects Him<\/em> is a chilling short film written and directed by Jared Skolnick about a young boy who discovers a corpse while biking in the woods, \u201cthen faces unexpected and macabre consequences when he tries to bury it.\u201d Influenced by the films of Werner Herzog, Terrence Malick, and Guillermo del Toro and the short stories of H.P. Lovecraft, Skolnick shows us the sinister side of a sunny day in a lush forest when a young boy takes a tumble off his bike over a small cliff and lands in a tangle of fallen leaves.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Sounds like the perfect beginning to a night of pleasurably dark vibes, no? <\/p>\n<p>Just in case you&#8217;re still wondering what these all these adjectives might mean, CVLT resident <a href=\"https:\/\/soundcloud.com\/elposer\">El Poser<\/a> recently posted a vernal mix that helps give a sense of the vibe (though I also saw him play an incredibly bounce-y set opening for <a href=\"https:\/\/soundcloud.com\/dubbeldutch\/\">Dubbel Dutch<\/a> at SWERVE a couple weeks back, so you never know): <\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"100%\" height=\"166\" scrolling=\"no\" frameborder=\"no\" src=\"https:\/\/w.soundcloud.com\/player\/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fapi.soundcloud.com%2Ftracks%2F89942108\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>\/\/\/<\/p>\n<p>On the other side of the vibes spectrum, I&#8217;m absolutely thrilled to be a part of this!!!! <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/wayneandwax\/8702430654\/\" title=\"PIC\u00d3 PICANTE - MAY 16 by wayneandwax, on Flickr\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm9.staticflickr.com\/8418\/8702430654_52a5a6f592_z.jpg\" width=\"494\" height=\"640\" alt=\"PIC\u00d3 PICANTE - MAY 16\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s a lot I could say about Pic\u00f3 Picante (my fave dance night in Boston) and Toy Selectah (one of my fave producer \/ DJ \/ A&#038;Rs in the world), but for now allow me to crib from the infotaining blurb the Pajaritos put together &#8212;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>\/\/ PIC\u00d3 PICANTE featuring Toy Selectah, May 16th at Good Life<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>On Thursday, May 16th, PIC\u00d3 PICANTE takes over both floors of Good Life for a special edition showcase for this year&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.togetherboston.com\/\">Together Festival<\/a>. Monterrey-based producer <a href=\"http:\/\/soundcloud.com\/toyselectah\">Toy Selectah<\/a> (Sones del Mexside, Mad Decent) headlines, known originally as the mix-master wizard for Mexico&#8217;s Hip Hop en Espa\u00f1ol pioneers Control Machete. Most recently, Toy&#8217;s productions gallop rural rhythms of Colombian-Mexican cumbias, reggae, and other urban styles to create his own trademark sound and collective called Sonidero Nacional. Toy&#8217;s responsible for developing the Mexican phenomenon 3BALLMTY, and has also worked with the likes of Calle 13, Don Omar, Manu Chao, Morrissey and many others. He now resides as Creative Director, A&#038;R and CEO of his own production company and boutique label, Sones del Mexside.<\/p>\n<p>Supporting downstairs at Good Life will be <a href=\"http:\/\/wayneandwax.com\/\">Wayne&#038;Wax<\/a> and Pic\u00f3 Picante&#8217;s resident <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dancepajaritos.com\/\">Pajaritos<\/a>, with live <a href=\"http:\/\/templeofmessages.com\/\">HEXbeam<\/a> visual prophecies.
