This week at Beat Research<\/a> — now every TUESDAY at Good Life<\/a> in downtown Boston — we’re enthused to host none other than NYC-based Dutty bredrin<\/a> (and local alumnus<\/a>!), Atropolis<\/a>. Hailing from \/ representing Queens, Atropolis co-hosts regular parties (and expeditions<\/a>) as part of Cumba Mela<\/a> while pumping out remixes that get to the essence of the “New York tropical” sound — to my ears and hips, a contemporary reckoning with the city’s always-already Afrodiasporic soundscape, and as such, a beacon for “tropical<\/a>” scenes in other transcolonial cities around the world.<\/p>\n

In our redoubtable opinion here at W&W, Atropolis released one of the best albums of the year with his eponymous effort on Dutty Artz<\/a> this spring. His tracks have been seeping into my sets for a minute now, so I’m really looking forward to hearing a full set of Adam’s distinct approach to world party music.
