And I liked it. A lot. <\/p>\n<p>I appreciated the allusion to a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jamrid.com\/Sleng.htm\">classic riddim<\/a> and the winking rearticulation to describe how the gyal&#8217;s (s)language &#8212; <em>London calling \/ speak the slang now \/ boys say wha \/ gwaan \/ girls say wha <\/em> &#8212; had a certain tang to it, a distinctive flavor. Salt&#038;pepper on a mango and whatnot. <\/p>\n<p>And so I thought it quite apropos for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fatplanet.com.au\/blog\/\">Stu FatPlanet<\/a> to name his <a href=\"http:\/\/www.slangtang.com\/\">recently launched podcast<\/a> after the &#8216;<a href=\"http:\/\/wayneandwax.com\/?p=143\">nu<\/a>&#8216; spelling of the phrase Wayne Smith <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=z9V3n9uhE1Q\">injected into the global lexicon<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/wayneandwax.com\/wp\/images\/lime.jpg\" height=\"67\" width=\"80\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/wayneandwax.com\/wp\/images\/lime.jpg\" height=\"67\" width=\"80\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/wayneandwax.com\/wp\/images\/lime.jpg\" height=\"67\" width=\"80\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/wayneandwax.com\/wp\/images\/lime.jpg\" height=\"67\" width=\"80\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/wayneandwax.com\/wp\/images\/lime.jpg\" height=\"67\" width=\"80\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/wayneandwax.com\/wp\/images\/lime.jpg\" height=\"67\" width=\"80\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/wayneandwax.com\/wp\/images\/lime.jpg\" height=\"67\" width=\"80\"><\/p>\n<p>But now, having seen several times the new MIA-propelled commercial for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.stltoday.com\/blogzone\/business-news\/business-ticker\/2008\/02\/bud-light-lime-to-roll-out-in-may\/\">Bud Light Lime<\/a> (during last night&#8217;s Kansas-UNC game), the phrase suggests yet another meaning to me: rather than her slang having tang, MIA is in fact just slanging tangy beverages. [<strong>update!<\/strong> i&#8217;ve been corrected in a comment below; turns out it&#8217;s not MIA but santogold; even so, i think we can still argue that the spot is &#8220;MIA-propelled&#8221;; i mean, come on]<\/p>\n<p>I should have suspected as much, previously <a href=\"http:\/\/wayneandwax.blogspot.com\/2005\/10\/what-would-noam-do.html\">hocking Hondas<\/a> and all.<\/p>\n<p>One question, tho: will MIA&#8217;s core audience really put down the PBR for BLL?<\/p>\n<p>Ok, two: Who are the <a href=\"http:\/\/64.233.169.104\/search?q=cache:bjzwlcpiRzkJ:adage.com\/agencynews\/article%3Farticle_id%3D125372+budweiser+lime&#038;hl=en&#038;ct=clnk&#038;cd=4&#038;gl=us&#038;client=firefox-a\">ad wizards<\/a> who came up with this campaign?<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>A-B&#8217;s memo said it was aiming Bud Light Lime at light-beer drinkers aged 25 to 54 who prefer a &#8220;sweeter&#8221; beer, as well as &#8220;trendsetters and aspirers.&#8221; <\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/wayneandwax.com\/wp\/images\/lime.jpg\" height=\"67\" width=\"80\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/wayneandwax.com\/wp\/images\/lime.jpg\" height=\"67\" width=\"80\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/wayneandwax.com\/wp\/images\/lime.jpg\" height=\"67\" width=\"80\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/wayneandwax.com\/wp\/images\/lime.jpg\" height=\"67\" width=\"80\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/wayneandwax.com\/wp\/images\/lime.jpg\" height=\"67\" width=\"80\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/wayneandwax.com\/wp\/images\/lime.jpg\" height=\"67\" width=\"80\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/wayneandwax.com\/wp\/images\/lime.jpg\" height=\"67\" width=\"80\"><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.stltoday.com\/blogzone\/business-news\/business-ticker\/2008\/02\/bud-light-lime-to-roll-out-in-may\/\">p.s.\/i.e.<\/a> &#8212;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Bud Light Lime (or \u201cBL Lime,\u201d as the beer may be titled on the clear bottles\u2019 packaging) is expected to draw much of its sales from \u201cAspirers\u201d \u2014 primarly blue-collar urban males who like mainstream imported beers like Heineken and Corona \u2014 and \u201cTrendsetters,\u201d who are very interested in fitness and may not like beer as much.\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I have to admit, when I first heard MIA sing &#8220;slang tang&#8221; during the opening salvo on Arular, I found it an awfully clever gesture.
