{"id":2205,"date":"2009-07-24T10:43:59","date_gmt":"2009-07-24T15:43:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wayneandwax.com\/?p=2205"},"modified":"2015-01-07T13:58:13","modified_gmt":"2015-01-07T17:58:13","slug":"family-dem-yknow","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wayneandwax.com\/?p=2205","title":{"rendered":"Family Dem, Y&#8217;know"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/_eon_\/status\/2802236095\">Charlie shares<\/a> the latest product from our-man-in-JA, Kevin Wallen, who has in recent months &#8212; with the generous support of USAID &#8212; shifted his media-rich, tech-savvy, and yet rather holistic approach to education (i.e., <a href=\"http:\/\/set-foundation.org\/\">Students Expressing Truth<\/a>) from Jamaica&#8217;s prisons to its schools &#8212; and in particular to students on the verge of expulsion. Kevin &#038; co. (including a former student of mine at Brandeis, there now as a summer intern) have been working at <a href=\"http:\/\/set-foundation.org\/?page_id=203\">Ascot High School<\/a> in Portmore. <\/p>\n<p>The students collaboratively produced a song and video about the program itself, and I&#8217;ve got to say it&#8217;s got a lot of flair: the vocalists are great, especially the nonchalant student who intros the track; the uniform-clad dancing is pretty suave; and you gotta love the kids holding up their <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/nesson\/2009\/07\/07\/977\/\">OLPC swag<\/a> (see 1:50) &#8212; not to mention rhyming &#8220;uno&#8221; with &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/search?hl=en&#038;q=unoo+jamaica\">unoo<\/a>&#8220;!
