{"id":1154,"date":"2009-01-13T21:58:00","date_gmt":"2009-01-14T02:58:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wayneandwax.com\/?p=1154"},"modified":"2015-01-07T14:03:58","modified_gmt":"2015-01-07T18:03:58","slug":"house-kwasa-kwasa-house","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wayneandwax.com\/?p=1154","title":{"rendered":"House Kwasa Kwasa House"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I still haven&#8217;t been able to send him <a href=\"http:\/\/wayneandwax.com\/?p=815\">those guitars<\/a>, but Red Pepper has the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.myspace.com\/ruffriddimz\">Ruff Riddims<\/a> studio up and running (and <a href=\"http:\/\/ruffriddims.blogspot.com\/\">blogging<\/a>!) &#8212; and it&#8217;s not like there aren&#8217;t guitars or guitarists in Botswana.<\/p>\n<p>Indeed, the first track I&#8217;ve heard out of the studio, &#8220;Dumelang&#8221; by <a href=\"http:\/\/ruffriddims.blogspot.com\/2008\/12\/skeat-in-studio.html\">Skeat<\/a> (pronounced Skee-tee), is an ebullient bit of kwasa house (aka, house kwasa), including that trademark kwasa-kwasa guitar (nodding to the noodly lines of <a href=\"http:\/\/worldmusic.nationalgeographic.com\/worldmusic\/view\/page.basic\/genre\/content.genre\/soukous_790\">soukous<\/a>). No doubt it&#8217;ll be a local hit. But will Vampire Weekend fans dig it?<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/wayneandwax.com\/wp\/audio\/skeat-dumelang.mp3\"><strong>Skeat, &#8220;Dumelang&#8221;<\/strong><\/a><br \/>\n[audio:http:\/\/wayneandwax.com\/wp\/audio\/skeat-dumelang.mp3]<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/wayneandwax.com\/wp\/images\/skeat.jpg\" width=\"600\"><\/p>\n<p>Skeat&#8217;s 17.  Lots more songs in him. In this occasionally audible <a href=\"http:\/\/www21.sbs.com.au\/alchemy\/player.php?id=872\">interview<\/a>, he sounds young and confident about his mix of &#8220;traditional, house kwasa, kwaito.&#8221; I look fwd to hearing more.<\/p>\n<p>Plus, the hip-hop\/reggae\/r&#038;b of <a href=\"http:\/\/ruffriddims.blogspot.com\/2009\/01\/bless-we-are-busy-working-night-and-day.html\">Tebza Rocker<\/a>!
