becca riddim #1
A few days ago Ron Ruhaak (a.k.a. Rhombus) prodded me by email to spend a little time on Fruityloops myself. So today at St. Andrew I listened carefully to Wayne's lesson about song form. We learned the different parts of most pop songs, and how they are put together. For most of the hour I watched the students make music, helped with little questions, and fixed malfunctioning computers. After their lunch period started and a few of the girls had left, I went to a computer where one girl hadn't bothered to close her program. She had an unsaved rhythm on the screen and I started to play with it. Within a few minutes, I had something I liked. Within a few more minutes I had managed to accidentally erase it completely, and all I could remember was that the sound I liked was named something like "41". This evening I bugged Wayne to help me find the sound I lost. I rebuilt the little part I'd lost (dancehall, of course). Then I used what Wayne taught us today to keep going: I added a turnaround, I added an intro, I added a chorus. Wayne cooked dinner. I added a break. After dinner he helped me finish it. He even says it's good, but what else can a boyfriend say on valentine's day. Now I present it to you: becca's first riddim. And I tell you: it's fun, you gotta try it.
