April 3 - Flashy First Try

Today we were supposed to go to Tivoli Gardens, but it turned out that students had math exams and the new lab is still waiting for air conditioning to be installed. From Wayne's perspective that was a good thing because Dami came over in the morning and wanted to bring keyboardist over in the afternoon to do some recording. Dami is really becoming a friend to Wayne, in addition, he's fun to work with and they are producing some pretty good music. This morning he talked philosophy to us for about an hour and I really wished that Wayne had had his minidisc player recording to get a little of the coming-up dj thought process recorded.

I like when Wayne and Dami are working. It creates a nice environment in the apartment. But the cancellation of Tivoli left me with a bit of an open schedule for the day. I spent some time working on creating an e-commerce class for Cable&Wireless. It's a topic that doesn't have a lot of inherent interest to me, but it is important for them and merits a class. Luckily Diane Cabell and a team of teaching fellows have already put great work into developing materials on the subject, so I'll be a student and then a teacher.

But by this afternoon I was in search of a project, so I decided to figure out how to use flash to make little animations. I haven't gotten very far yet, but I thought I'd share the very first fruits of my labor. Maybe once I learn how to do the fun stuff like action scripting, I'll have fun comparing this first try to my later, better attempts. (It may take quite a while to load. I haven't figured out how to make it give one of those loading messages yet--be patient.)

If you don't have a Flash player, you can get one here.
